She claims that her clients lose about nine inches from the stomach and thighs in the first ten sessions, and that&#8217;s a good number, really! Her work out called &#8216;Dancer&#8217;s Workout&#8217; is a combination of the Pilates techniques, diet and aerobics. If you are someone who believes that the shape of your body is in your genes and you can&#8217;t do anything about it, then Tracy will be glad to prove it all wrong. She says that she can transform a woman with any body shape into that of a professional dancer. She has designed her own version of the Pilates machine called the Hybrid Body Reformer, which has a moving pulley system that hits the muscles from different angles and these allow umpteen numbers of positions, all of which mimic dancing movements. What is Tracy&#8217;s approach? She believes that waking up the muscles that are weak is the key to shaping up. Instead of building up the major muscle groups in the abs, she focuses on muscles around them. She says: When the accessory muscles are properly developed, they pull in the larger ones, creating a tinier body structure. In this way you can reshape your body. She charges $30-$40 /session and recommends a minimum of three months of training and that&#8217;s not a big amount to get that great body. Not all of us can afford to have her as our personal trainer or her Pilates machine, so she plans to come up with a fitness DVD that&#8217;ll take you through her fitness route. Sigh!) Well, the lady does seem to have her own set of &#8216;scientific&#8217; explanations! According to the &#8216;beer diet&#8217;, drinking twelve or more cans of beers can cause &#8216;reverse peristaltic movements&#8217; which causes food to be vomited out. As a result, net calorific consumption remains nil. In other words, it is something like an &#8216;induced bulimia&#8217;. As if that was not enough, the video goes on to explain how excessive alcohol consumption can cause memory loss and you may just &#8216;forget&#8217; how to eat. Further, alcoholism can exhaust your resources as you spend all your savings on beer bottles so that you have no money left to buy food! The other advantage of the &#8216;beer diet&#8217; is that by the end of your beer drinking routine, you will be too sloshed to even walk up to the fridge or the kitchen, which are &#8216;sources of calories. This was also geared towards reducing the suicide rate in the US. According to the Center for Disease control (CDC), the suicide rates in 2004 increased dramatically. This is what a September &#8217;07 CDC survey stated. As an effort to curb the suicide rates, the NeuroMark company, the developers of the Mark C test developed this new testing. The company officials mentioned that earlier there was no way to figure out whether antidepressants would help or harm patients. Now the Mark C test, differentiates between the subset of patients who are at a risk of suicide and those who could take antidepressants safely. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a public health warning against the antidepressant drugs a few years back. But, people still used this kind of drug. The Mark C is the fine line between life and suicide. How does the Mark C test work? A cotton swab is used to get DNA sample, very much like the technique in a crime lab. The genes GRIK 2 and GRIA 3 are used as parameters to encode the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate. I think I better stop here since, the actual details are next to incomprehensible unless you are medically inclined. The bottom line is: Mark C is helping prevent suicide from antidepressants. It sounds somewhat strange but in reality, this is the truth-the bitter truth. This bitter truth sprang out during an analysis by the U.S. scientists. In this analysis, researchers at the University of Minnesota analyzed the results of surveys conducted among teenagers from 1999 to 2004 to know how far studies stating that dieting lead to weight gain are true. During this analysis Neumark-Sztainer and her colleagues interviewed about 2,516 teens in 1999 and again five years later. At the earlier time point, 56 percent of girls reported dieting while 25 percent of boys said they had dieted at least once. Five years later, female dieters were less likely to eat breakfast and were more likely to binge eat, and they had gained 0.69 more body mass index (BMI) points than their non-dieting classmates. Boys who dieted were more likely to binge eat, spent less time engaging in moderate to vigorous physical activity, and put on .77 more BMI points than boys who didn&#8217;t try to control their weight by dieting. In this analysis researchers found that a big percentage of adolescents following dieting route to lose weight, indulged in binge eating by decreasing their breakfast consumption. In addition, fruit and vegetable intake of these adolescents also came down when compared to adolescents not following dieting route in order to lose weight. Throwing light on the core findings of this study Professor Dianne Neumark-Sztainer said: Dieting might lead to weight gain among adolescents, in part because of &#8216;the long-term adoption of behavioral patterns that are counterproductive to weight management.&#8217; Further, she asserted strongly: We really want to discourage teenagers from dieting. Message given by Professor Dianne Neumark-Sztainer is plausible, since several studies conducted earlier have also harped upon the same string because there are many side effects associated with dieting, which one ought to know. <p>Previous studies had indicated that the risk of developing a jaw condition, ONJ, or osteonecrosis of the jaw that loosens teeth and softens bone, was negligible, particularly among those taking a pill versus IV delivery of bisphosphonates.</p>
<p>A new study suggests the <a title="jaw condition might be more common" href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/01/AR2009010101198.html">jaw condition might be more common</a> than previously thought.</p>
<p>Dr. Parish Sedghizadeh at the <a href="http://dentistry.usc.edu/"><span style="color: #800080;">University of Southern California School of Dentistry</span></a> in Los Angeles, reports his clinic was seeing from one to four new cases a week, <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/01/AR2009010101198.html"><span style="color: #800080;">reports the Washington Post</span></a>.</p>
<p>In an effort to find out why, he and colleagues studied the records of 208 patients from the USC School of Dentistry’s electronic database.</p>
<p>Nine of the patients taking Fosamax had active ONJ – about 4 percent.  These patients were having dental issues and had been at the School of Dentistry.</p>
<p>The result of his findings is published in the January 1 issue of the <a href="http://jada.ada.org/cgi/content/short/140/1/61"><span style="color: #800080;">Journal of the American Dental Association.</span></a></p>
<p>Bisphosphonates, such as Actonel, Aredia, Boniva, Didronel, Fosamax and Fosamax PlusD, Reclast, Skelid and <span style="color: #800080;">Zometa -</span> are a class of drugs that slow or stop reabsorption of bone.</p>
<p>They can reduce the risk of bone fracture, and in some cases can increase bone mass in those with osteoporosis. In cancer patients, they slow bone turnover in people with cancer of the bones or multiple myeloma.</p>
<p>An estimated <a href="http://news.injuryboard.com/national-news/bisphosphonates-for-osteoporosis-treatment-linked-to-jawbone-damage.aspx?googleid=247972"><span style="color: #800080;">1 in 10 cancer patients</span></a> who receive treatment with IV bisphosphonate drugs will develop the jaw problem.</p>
<p>In the past, ONJ has been seen in patients taking Fosamax, the most widely prescribed bisphosphonate,  even after taking the drug for as little as one year and generally after tooth extraction. Fosamax, marketed by Merck &amp; Co., has been on the market since 2006.</p>
<p>USC now screens all dental patients for bisphosphonate use.</p>
<p><span style="color: #800080;">Sedghizadeh says</span>, &#8220;We put patients on anti-microbial, anti-fungal rinse one week pre-operatively or post-operatively. If they have been on bisphosphonates six months or a year or longer, then we have a prevention protocol which has been very, very effective.&#8221;</p>
<p>Dr. Sedghizadeh speculates that the drugs may make it easier for bacteria to adhere to the exposed bone after a tooth extraction.</p>
<p>Merck says the study has flaws and scientific limitations, making it unreliable.</p>
<p>Other risks associated with bisphoshonates are atrial fibrillation (an abnormal heart rhythm), unusual fractures of the thigh bone, and inflammatory eye disease.</p>
<p>In an alert posted on its website last year, the FDA is warned that patients treated with many of the commonly used osteoporosis drugs occasionally develop disabling pain that doctors may not be linking to the drug&#8217;s use.</p>
