No doubt, dieting may help you in losing your extra flab but it lead to bone loss as well; a new study by the researchers at Washington University has opened out this fact.

Researchers tracked three groups of the people to gather these results. First group followed a calorie-restricted eating pattern; the second group went on with same calorie diet but started regular exercise and the third group didn’t bring any variation in their lifestyle and the results, which peeped out after this year long study, found that people on calorie-restricted diet no doubt lost their weight but lost their bone density as well and that too at an alarming rate. On the other hand, not much loss of bone density was noticed in other two groups, which clears the fact that dieting not only loose your body fat but your bone density as well.

Actually, the right way to weight loss is doing exercise along with balanced diet and starving oneself might have negative implications on your body. It is quite confusing that why people forget that food is like a fuel for our body and for wants of it our body starts crumbling down. In the recent years dieting has emerged as a vogue, but always mind that it is such a rogue that turns your body hollow slowly but steadily.

Normally, dieting is considered a short cut to lose weight but in reality, it may do just the opposite by gaining your weight. It sounds somewhat strange but in reality, this is the truth-the bitter truth.

This bitter truth sprang out during an analysis by the U.S. scientists. In this analysis, researchers at the University of Minnesota analyzed the results of surveys conducted among teenagers from 1999 to 2004 to know how far studies stating that dieting lead to weight gain are true. During this analysis Neumark-Sztainer and her colleagues interviewed about 2,516 teens in 1999 and again five years later. At the earlier time point, 56 percent of girls reported dieting while 25 percent of boys said they had dieted at least once.

Five years later, female dieters were less likely to eat breakfast and were more likely to binge eat, and they had gained 0.69 more body mass index (BMI) points than their non-dieting classmates. Boys who dieted were more likely to binge eat, spent less time engaging in moderate to vigorous physical activity, and put on .77 more BMI points than boys who didn’t try to control their weight by dieting.

In this analysis researchers found that a big percentage of adolescents following dieting route to lose weight, indulged in binge eating by decreasing their breakfast consumption. In addition, fruit and vegetable intake of these adolescents also came down when compared to adolescents not following dieting route in order to lose weight. Throwing light on the core findings of this study Professor Dianne Neumark-Sztainer said:

Dieting might lead to weight gain among adolescents, in part because of ‘the long-term adoption of behavioral patterns that are counterproductive to weight management.’

Further, she asserted strongly:

We really want to discourage teenagers from dieting.

Message given by Professor Dianne Neumark-Sztainer is plausible, since several studies conducted earlier have also harped upon the same string because there are many side effects associated with dieting, which one ought to know. A website recently showcase a bizarre video by blogger Kevin that features a pretty blond talking about how a ‘beer diet’ can help one lose weight at an alarming rate (and we thought all that beer can give us was a beer belly. Sigh!) Well, the lady does seem to have her own set of ’scientific’ explanations!

According to the ‘beer diet’, drinking twelve or more cans of beers can cause ‘reverse peristaltic movements’ which causes food to be vomited out. As a result, net calorific consumption remains nil. In other words, it is something like an ‘induced bulimia’. As if that was not enough, the video goes on to explain how excessive alcohol consumption can cause memory loss and you may just ‘forget’ how to eat. Further, alcoholism can exhaust your resources as you spend all your savings on beer bottles so that you have no money left to buy food! The other advantage of the ‘beer diet’ is that by the end of your beer drinking routine, you will be too sloshed to even walk up to the fridge or the kitchen, which are ’sources of calories.

Tracy Anderson is the hottest fitness guru who is shaping up the Hollywood’s A-list right now. She has helped 33-year-old mom of two, Gwyneth Paltrow shed her baby belly and Madonna transform her body into that of a professional dancer-thin, long and lean.

She claims that her clients lose about nine inches from the stomach and thighs in the first ten sessions, and that’s a good number, really! Her work out called ‘Dancer’s Workout’ is a combination of the Pilates techniques, diet and aerobics.

If you are someone who believes that the shape of your body is in your genes and you can’t do anything about it, then Tracy will be glad to prove it all wrong. She says that she can transform a woman with any body shape into that of a professional dancer.

She has designed her own version of the Pilates machine called the Hybrid Body Reformer, which has a moving pulley system that hits the muscles from different angles and these allow umpteen numbers of positions, all of which mimic dancing movements.

What is Tracy’s approach? She believes that waking up the muscles that are weak is the key to shaping up. Instead of building up the major muscle groups in the abs, she focuses on muscles around them. She says:

When the accessory muscles are properly developed, they pull in the larger ones, creating a tinier body structure. In this way you can reshape your body.

She charges $30-$40 /session and recommends a minimum of three months of training and that’s not a big amount to get that great body.

Not all of us can afford to have her as our personal trainer or her Pilates machine, so she plans to come up with a fitness DVD that’ll take you through her fitness route.
